Willemoes and the WreckOngoing
Annebjerg Stræde 1, 4500 Nykøbing Sj
The story of the battle on the liner Prinds Christian Frederik is reasonably dramatic. The popular naval hero Peter Willemoes did not survive the battle.
On March 22, 1808, Denmark lost its last large ship of the line Prinds Christian Frederik in battle against the English. The battle ended off Odden Havn, - where the ship ran aground and later burned.
A third of the 600-man crew were either dead or wounded after the battle. Including the popular sea hero, Peter Willemoes.
Get the dramatic story of the battle as seen from the people on board on a tour of the exhibition. See authentic objects from the wreck, which are still lying outside Odden Havn and effects that local fishermen have made from wood and iron from the wreck, e.g. a chatol in the finest oak.
