Sorø Museum
At Sorø Museum you can dive into what is special about Sorø. The museum is located in Christian IV's inn - one of the city's oldest buildings, built 1624-25.
You are always welcome to spend time in the museum's courtyard or our Pharmacy Garden. The unique pharmacy garden is located behind the museum and contains plants from Joachim Burser's (1583-1639) herbarium. Burser was a famous German botanist and doctor who settled in Sorø. The pharmacy garden is laid out according to the geometry of the Renaissance.
The museum is open all year.
Exhibitions
Ingemann and the Golden Age. Interior exhibition with furniture from the author BS Ingemann's home in Sorø. Without Lucie and Bernhard Severin Ingemann, Sorø would not have meant the same for the Danish Golden Age. Their home brought together many cultural figures.
Experience the Klunkestuerne , where you will get an insight into the interior design of the upper middle class around the year 1900. The Klunk era was characterized by many technical advances, but in homes people protected themselves from an uncertain world and decorated with ornaments and decorations.
Creatures of Darkness . A children's exhibition in a farmhouse, where you can see and investigate various superstitious phenomena and see what people did to avert misfortune.
The Time Journey in Sorø is a 13,5-meter-long, man-height frieze illustrated by Erik Petri. In a simple line, Petri manages to tell the story of Sorø in a way that appeals broadly to both children and adults.
Shop and tavern
In the museum shop you can buy copies of old toys, books, postcards and handicrafts. We also sell coffee and cake, which you can enjoy in Christian the IV's inn.
In the packed lunch garden, you can eat brought food all year round. The garden room is open from May to October.
Pharmacy garden
The Apotekerhaven is a historic garden that recreates part of the botanical garden that physician and botanist Joachim Burser established in the 1600th century. The garden conveys Burser's work with medicinal plants and his great importance for Danish botany.
Here you can experience plants that he himself cultivated and used medicinally – including the rare red anemones he found at Sorø Sø. The Pharmacist's Garden is a living story about the role of nature in the medical arts of the past and about one of the most important figures in Danish plant research.
