History, culture and exciting events
Slagelse Museum
At Slagelse Museum you can experience Håndværkergaden from the first half of the 1800th century.
On 23 March 2024, the entire 1 hall will be transformed into a large playground with the opening of the children's exhibition Me and My City.
You can shop in the old grocery store, buy coffee and cake in the café or eat brought food in the Green Urban Space.
You can experience that
Step into Handvärkergaden, and go 200 years back in time in the crooked street with topped cobblestones and nearby houses. In the houses you can see different workshops with traditional crafts.
You can also follow in Hans Christian Andersen's young footsteps and see a Latin school, like the one he went to when he lived in Slagelse.
Me and My city. Here, children can crawl through Slagel's sewers and investigate what the archaeologists have found down there under the cobblestones. The children can also serve sausages to the adults in the square or build a clockwork out of brightly colored "candy cogwheels" in the shop.
I the old grocery store from the 1940s-1950s, you can have a look into a time of scarcity of goods, in-kind economics and rationing brands.
