City walk - Slagelse of the Viking Age and the Middle Ages

Prospect Slagelse 1755

City walk in Viking Age and Medieval Slagelse. The city was founded in the Viking Age and has had a central role in Danish history.

Slagelse is one of Denmark's oldest towns and here some of Denmark's first coins were minted for King Canute the Great. They did that in Kongsgården in Bredgade. It was also in Slagelse that Queen Margrete 1st convened a royal meeting in the town, where her 6-year-old son Oluf II was elected king.

More has happened in Slagelse in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages than is commonly known. Hear about the times and events on a city walk to historic sites.

It is necessary to buy a ticket in advance.

The trip is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

Meeting point: In front of Slagelse Library's main entrance in Stenstuegade 14, 4200 Slagelse
