Kongsøhav jættestue is being restored by the Danish Agency for Palaces and Culture in collaboration with Morsø Forest and Nature Service and Museum West Zealand.
New grants from the Danish Parliament now make it possible for the Danish Agency for Palaces and Culture to restore and secure the jættestu together with Museum Vestsjælland's archaeologists. This is according to Museum Vestsjælland.
– It is a ruin of a giant's den today. Weather, animals and not least local people in need of large stones have damaged the mound a lot over time. The work is straightening three bearing stones and making adjustments around them. Afterwards, embankments will be made around the structure so that it stands stable, says excavation manager Karen Lundstoft from Museum Vestsjælland.
Archaeological investigations are also being carried out during the work, and among other things, the characteristic tiles that have filled the spaces between the bearing stones have been found.
