The Classic Embroidery School

Hole stitch on linen canvas

The exhibition Textiles, Techniques, Threads and Traditions is a tribute to the good embroidery craft and a tribute to the classic Danish embroidery techniques.

There are 4 graduating students from The Classic Embroidery School, at Lis Ahrenkiel, who show many of the thorough preparatory works that have been carried out at the school during the 7-8 year course they have gone through. At the same time, there are many examples of the embroidery used in a modern context, on pictures, carpets, cushions, boxes, hangers, buttons, small strange animals and much more.

The four graduating students are Tove Pedersen, Tove Carlsen, Grethe Riis and Marianne Ochwat.

At the exhibition, all of the embroidery school's 29 students also show samples of baldyring, which is one of the many white embroideries in which the Danish tradition is so rich.

The exhibition will be shown at Sorø Museum, Storgade 17. Sorø, from 6 July 2024 until mid-August. The museum is open every day between 10 and 16.
