Did you know that British agents blew up the Great Belt Ferry during WWII? Or that a plane from the Royal Air Force was shot down near Ringsted and endangered an important mission for Denmark?
All adults in Europe know the story of the Second World War and how the resistance movements supported the Allied war against Nazi Germany. Or do they?
Few know the real story of how difficult conditions were for the organization of the resistance in Europe. The resistance was suppressed by governments in several countries – among them both Denmark and England.
SOE (Special Operations Executive), an English intelligence and agent service, initially acted against orders and in Denmark organized a complicated resistance network across political wings.
Many destinies in West Zealand were changed by the resistance work and at the exhibition you can see and experience some of the dramatic events that took place here. Events that were planned in England.
West Zealanders came into close contact with spies, weapons training and organization. They received weapons from heaven and performed dangerous missions. The effort also cost many young British men their lives as well as the loss of many Royal Air Force aircraft.
The exhibition is realized with the help of: Gerry Holdsworth Special Forces Charity, Augustinusfonden, Brand of 1848
