Introduction to Holbæk Museum

In the middle of Holbæk's city center is the Holbæk Museum – a collection of 12 buildings which form the heart of the old town. 11 of the 12 authentic buildings are located on the exact same site as they were originally built - some as far back as 1660. In this introduction you will hear about some of the different houses - for example the exhibitions:

– The West Indies/West Zealand , which shows the exciting story of West Zealand's importance in Danish colonial history. It is the overlooked story of how the country outside the capital profited from the colonies.

– Klosterstræde 8 workers' housing from 1940, which illustrates the everyday life of a working-class family in 1940s Holbæk. Here the Jacobsen family moved into the small 2½-room ground floor apartment with their 11 children in total

– Klosterstræde 12 Knabstrup ceramics which displays the country's largest collection of Knabstrup ceramics – over 1500 objects. Knabstrup Lervarefabrik was for many years one of the largest workplaces in Holbæk municipality. The exhibition shows photos and a representative selection of the collection, including the well-known Bellman tableware and the Tove and Birthe tea sets.
