Introduction to Holbæk Museum

In the middle of Holbæk's city center is the Holbæk Museum – a collection of 12 buildings which form the heart of the old town. 11 of the 12 authentic buildings are located on the exact same site as they were originally built - some as far back as 1660. In this introduction you will hear about some of the different houses - for example the exhibitions:

West Indies/ West Zealand which shows the exciting story about West Zealand's importance in Danish colonial history. It is the overlooked story of how the country outside the capital profited from the colonies.

Klosterstræde 8 workers' housing from 1940, which illustrates the everyday life of a working-class family in 1940s Holbæk. Here the Jacobsen family moved into the small 2½-room ground floor apartment with their 11 children in total

Klosterstræde 12 Knabstrup ceramics, which displays the country's largest collection of Knabstrup ceramics - over 1500 items. Knabstrup Lervarefabrik was for many years one of the largest workplaces in Holbæk municipality. The exhibition shows photos and a representative selection of the collection, including the well-known Bellman set and the Tove and Birthe tea sets.
