Light on Nordic Carpets is a carpet exhibition that showcases 36 modern and unique carpets created by weavers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and the Faroe Islands. The selected carpets present carpet weavers who work experimentally with traditional craftsmanship.
The exhibition Light on Nordic Carpets has been created in collaboration between the Carpet Workshop Vævernes Hus in West Zealand, the Danish Carpet Foundation, and a number of partners, museums and associations. In this context, the partner is Odsherred Museum in Nykøbing.
Weaving has been a part of life in the Nordic region for more than 8.000 years. Today, active carpet weavers bring this ancient craft into the present with new patterns, colors and expressions.
The weavers draw their inspiration from landscapes, the rhythms of nature, the thousand-year-old cultural heritage and the time they themselves live in. Therefore, the carpets become a reflection of the Nordic – both in form, expression and atmosphere. These are carpet weavers who keep the craft tradition alive and relevant.
The exhibition will be on display from October 10, 2026 – February 28, 2027 at Odsherred Museum in Nykøbing.
The carpets are displayed in conjunction with various forms of dissemination activities: film screenings, carpet weaving demonstrations, exhibition catalogue, lectures, workshops and tours.
The exhibition will be shown in the Nordic region in the years 2026–2029 – including in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and the Faroe Islands.
The following foundations have supported the traveling exhibition Light on Nordic Carpets: the AP Møller Foundation, the Louis-Hansen Foundation and the Augustinus Foundation, as well as the Poul Johansen Foundation of 1992.
