Ready for Christmas? – a Christmas experience for the whole family

In the exhibition ' Ready for Christmas' the whole family can explore Christmas food, gifts, beliefs and Christmas cheer through time – with stories and traditions from all over West Zealand. Ready for Christmas is an atmospheric family experience with stories, games and creative activities.

Turn on the MERRY CHRISTMAS and find out where in history you will celebrate Christmas . Along the way, you will find out what you would have to eat, what gifts awaited you, how people enjoyed themselves – and what you should do to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

But are you really ready for Christmas?

Do you remember the cows' teeth?
In the Slagelse region, the cattle's teeth had to be rubbed with soot and salt on Christmas morning so that the trolls wouldn't harm them.

Has the laundry arrived?
In the Tissø area, the laundry had to be dry and put away before Christmas. Otherwise, it could portend misfortune.

Have you protected the beer from witchcraft?
In Halleby, two straws were placed crosswise during beer brewing so that the Christmas beer would not be "spoiled".

Do you have your sewing needles ready?
On Christmas Eve at dusk, the farm boy would go out and place a sewing needle in each corner of the field. This was done in Asnæs.

Come through the CHRISTMAS portal – and find out if you are ready for Christmas.

In the museum's cozy tavern you can enjoy mulled wine and apple slices, and in December it is also possible to visit the museum's Christmas escape room.

The exhibition 'Ready for Christmas' opens on November 21 at Sorø Museum and can be seen during the museum's opening hours throughout December.
