Now we are entering the dark months, and with them the love of the Dark Painters returns to the halls of Odsherreds Kunstmuseum. Experience a thematic exhibition of works from our permanent collection of paintings from the Odsherredsmalerne – with a few surprises that have not been hung for a long time.

This time the hanging is made for each individual artist, so there is ample opportunity to delve into your own favorite Odsherreds painter and trace their artistic journey.

The Odsherred painters were often called dark painters because of the dark, subdued color style in their paintings. Immediate landscapes and motifs painted in earthy colors with a darkness that inspires reflection. As the years passed during the artist colony in Odsherred, the color style of the works, like the times, became lighter. The exhibition shows the development from the early, introspective dark painting to the brighter and more colorful landscape depictions, which testify to an artistic journey characterized by change and immersion.

NEW! During the exhibition period, you can experience several new outreach offers and events that focus on selected Odsherred painters as well as the artist colony's time and work in Odsherred.
The autumn exhibition where the works will reappear – with a few surprises – can be seen from November 1st to April 12th, 2026 (closed from December 22nd to February 6th, 2026) at Odsherreds Kunstmuseum in the museum's opening hours.
