The plant is poisonous.
Application
In the past, Cowslip has been used as a medicinal plant for coughs, insomnia, premenstrual problems, cramps, headaches and skin infections.
In folk medicine, the juice has been used against warts and the dried crushed root as a poultice for feverish illnesses.
The juice of the fresh plant is highly irritating and can cause blisters. This effect is lost when the plant is dried and extracted. The taste of the plant is sharp and burning.
The roots contain saponins. They can be used as soap for washing fine fabrics.
