Application
The plant has been used as a hemostatic agent, and the genus name sanguisorba is a combination of the two Latin words for blood “sanguis” and to absorb “sorbeo”.
The plant is diuretic and is said to be good for the kidneys and to cleanse the bile and liver. The juice is a remedy for diarrhea, and the leaves can be used as a plaster on wounds and boils. It has also been used as a milk stimulant in nursing women.
Crushed fresh plants can be used to treat burns and to stop bleeding from wounds.
