Application
In medieval monastic medicine, borage was used to treat heart pain and depression.
Horsetail is mentioned in the pharmacopoeia from 1772, and a tea made from the flowers was used around 1820 against heart ailments.
In folk medicine, a decoction of borage is used to purify the blood and as a tonic for nervous heart conditions.
Used today as a sedative.
The flowers of the marigold are edible and have a faint cucumber flavor. The flowers are beautiful as a garnish in a salad.
New studies have shown that borage contains alkaloids that can have a harmful effect on the liver. Therefore, only small amounts of borage flowers should be consumed.
