Dictam has been used as an abortifacient and against psoriasis,
The flowers have a scent that can be described as a mixture of vanilla and lemon. The unripe fruit clusters emit a mixture of essential oils that can be smelled from a long distance. In calm, warm weather, the vapors can become so concentrated around the plant that they can ignite. This has given the plant the nickname “burning bush”. Another Danish name is gas plant.
Skin contact with the plant can cause photosensitivity, rashes and blisters.

Flavonoids, quinoline alkaloids, coumarins and essential oil.
