Application
Heartwort is an old, well-known medicinal plant already used by the Greeks in ancient times. Here it was used especially for women in menopause. The name heartwort means “heart tension” and refers to the plant’s use against pressure on the heart.
Heartwort has been used throughout history, especially by women, as it regulates menstruation, soothes after childbirth, contracts the uterus and lowers blood pressure. It was also used against intestinal worms and shortness of breath.
Heartwort hastens labor and should not be used as a herbal remedy during pregnancy. The plant contains the alkaloid stachydrin, which causes uterine contractions.
The bitter substances in the plant seem to have a calming and blood pressure-lowering effect.
Approved as a herbal medicine in the EU with an effect against nervousness.
