Application
Pansies are most commonly used in folk medicine, but Pansies have also been sold in pharmacies, so some doctors have also used it, for example, as a cough suppressant tea, especially for treating children. The effect is mildly expectorant and antibacterial. Pansies also have a mild diuretic effect.
Pansies contain methyl salicylate, the same flavoring used in some types of chewing gum.
Pansies combat bad breath. The effect is due to the antibacterial effect of methyl salicylate.
Pansies are very useful as ornamental flowers in salads and on desserts.
Pansy has been used as a dye plant. It gives a violet color to wool.
