Application
The Rose Plantain is a red variant of the common Smooth Plantain.
Plantain is an old medicinal plant, described in most medical books from the Middle Ages. Plantain is used externally for insect bites and burns, wounds and abrasions. The plant sap contains antihistamines, so the effect depends on proven active ingredients. Plantain can be used internally for diarrhea and as an appetite stimulant.
The seeds can be used as a laxative. The seed coat contains a mucilage that forms a gel when soaked, which gives the laxative effect. The seeds are also called flea seeds, and are available in health food stores.
