Application
The most important use of tansy is for the treatment of intestinal worms. This use dates back to the Middle Ages and is still used in some cases. Tansy was also called worm seed in the past.
Externally, tansy juice can be rubbed on the skin as a treatment for varicose veins, boils, and scabies. Some wise wives have used tansy as an abortifacient.
Tansy has been used to treat livestock. Here, it is also a special treatment against worms, which has been common. Another type of use in the animal kingdom is that Tansy can be used to combat lice and fleas. Tansy flowers were previously used in bedding to keep lice and fleas down.
Tansy can be used for plant dyeing, and gives a beautiful yellow-green color. The flowers can be used as a schnapps herb for a spice bitters.
