Cinema and Cinema in Tinggade
Ringsted Cinema Theater - Ringsted Bio
Ringsted's first cinema 'Ringsted Biografteater' opened in Børsens sal in Søgade in 1907. It remained there until 1924, when cinema director AH Andersen built a new cinema with 234 seats in Tinggade 6. After AH Andersen's death in 1938, the municipality took over the cinema. Until about 1960, the municipality owned the cinema, which was run by successive municipally employed cinema directors, each of whom modernised the cinema.
When the ownership changed, the cinema was given a new name and was now called Ringsted Bio. In the following years, there were periods of ownership overlap between Ringsted Bio and Ringsted Kino. Competition for customers was fierce, video machines won out and fewer people bought tickets to the cinemas, and in 1985 Ringsted Bio had to close. Tinggade now had only one cinema – Ringsted Kino.
