St. Bendt's Church is burning!

On a hot morning in June 1806, the citizens of Ringsted discover smoke over the city. There has been a fire in Ringsted Kloster's barn buildings.

People rush to the square in front of the monastery and now see to their horror that the fire has gripped the whole barn. Soon after, the flames leap to St. Bendt's Church right next door!

The city's landmark and meeting point, the large church, is on fire.

Experience the fateful day at Ringsted Museum or with the Time Pocket virtual reality experience at Sankt Bendts Kirke in Ringsted or at Ringsted Museum.

Sankt Bendt's Church Fire 1806 VR

About the recreation of Sankt Bendt's Church in virtual reality:

Sankt Bendt's Church in 1806 did not look quite like the church does today. Both because parts of the church burned down then, but also because more extensions have been added. In addition, the surroundings look completely different today.

We carefully recreated the church in 3D from existing sources to achieve as accurate an expression of how the church looked in 1806 as possible. The surroundings are also reproduced with church walls, trees and half-timbered houses around. In the experience, you can also see the monastery's barn. This is where the fire started.

The entire visual experience is supplemented by a speak in Danish and English that tells the story of the fire back then in 1806.

The experience can be tried with virtual reality headsets at Ringsted Museum and as a 360-degree experience in the Tidslommen.
