Tour of Tårnborg Church and ruins

Korsør Nor and Tårnborg Church

Tour of the area by Tårnborg Church with stories about the castle ruins, the church, the kings and the importance of the place in the Middle Ages.

Tårnborg, located on the east side of Korsør Nor, was built as part of a fortification to protect the Great Belt. The site functioned as a crossing point between Zealand and Funen in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. In connection with the sailing, a marketplace and a market town arose, which gained privilege in the middle of the 1200th century, where Tårnborg Church was also built. The area was then part of Valdemar the Great's crown estate. Changing kings, i.a. Erik Menved took up residence at Tårnborg, where he held a danehof around 1308. In the middle of the 1400th century, Erik of Pomerania demolished Tårnborg and moved the fortifications of Storebælt to Korsør.

The evening's tour goes around the church and the castle bank, where the former market town was located. From here there is a fantastic view of the Great Belt.

It is necessary to buy a ticket in advance.
