Tour of Bakkekammen 45, built by Marius Pedersen, who was an advocate of Better Byggeskik. Come inside his home and on a tour of the neighborhood.
Marius Pedersen has designed 10 of the houses on Bakkekammen, a street close to the fjord in Holbæk.
He was, together with i.a. Ivar Bentsen, prominent forerunner of the Better Building Practices movement.
On a walk around neighbourhoods, we hear about the ideas behind Better Building Practices and what characterizes this architectural direction. We look into the garden of Bakkekammen 40, which is one of Ivar Bentsen's main works from 1917, and end by visiting Bakkekammen 45, which was built by Marius Pedersen in 1929.
He lived and worked here until his death in 1965. The widow lived until 2007, after which the house was converted into Denmark's only interior museum for Better Construction.
The house is untouched with original furnishings and color choices on the walls and doors.
The plot was formerly an orchard, and some of the old fruit trees still stand in the lavish garden behind the house. In 2022, the front garden was brought back to its original expression.
Meeting point: in front of Bakkekammen 40, where the tour starts. Parking in surrounding streets.
There is only access to the Bakkekammen via guided tours. It is necessary to buy a ticket in advance.
The ticket also covers entrance to Holbæk Museum on the same day.
