Ringsted's Forgotten Kings

Special exhibition - Ringsted's Forgotten Kings

Ringsted's Forgotten Kings

The exhibition Ringsted's Forgotten Kings takes you through historical events, through the period 1536-1917.

The exhibition tells about the changing use of the farm Ringsted Kloster by the Renaissance kings.

  • A place that has been visited by both Christian 3rd, Frederik 2nd, Christian 4th and Frederik 3rd.
  • A place where the library was visited by scholars from all over Europe in the 1600th century, and which ended its days as Swedish spoils of war.
  • A place that bred the finest horses that formed the foundation for our days, Frederiksborg Horses.
  • A place which has been the main prize in the lottery.

At the Reformation in 1536, Ringsted Monastery was confiscated by the royal power and turned into a Lensgård. Lensgården kept the name Ringsted Kloster, although the monastery function disappeared. In the beginning, the farm was owned by the changing kings, but later came into private hands. Lensgården's buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1806, where only St. Bendt's Church survived. In 1917 the land passed to the city government.

You can experience the exhibition Ringsted's Forgotten Kings at Ringsted Museum from June to December 2024, during the museum's opening hours.
