Lecture - HAV, The voice of the sea in Denmark
Klostrstræde 18, 4300 Holbæk
A punishment from God, the fourth rider of the apocalypse, or invisible bacteria and viruses that attack our bodies and make us sick or kill us. Whatever we call it, humans have often had to fight their way through epidemics and pandemics.
The exhibition addresses the four main themes that follow any plague: the spread of infection, the cessation of infection, relief / cure and in modern times: vaccination. It is not an exhibition that describes in detail the horrors of smallpox, tuberculosis, plague, The Spanish Sick or COVID19.
Instead, we look at how we as humans have over time dealt with the invisible and external enemy - no matter what form it may take.
Parts of the exhibition are borrowed from our colleagues at Mothsgården in Søllerød. This beautiful and natural area has previously housed many sanatoriums and been the place patients were sent to convalescence. Here in Holbæk, there have, among other things. been a tuberculosis hospital. We have also found objects that are connected to Holbæk, including a cup set.
Welcome to the hospital.
The exhibition can be seen at Holbæk Museum, see opening hours here.
