Lecture - HAV, The voice of the sea in Denmark
Klostrstræde 18, 4300 Holbæk
In the exhibition, you can experience the Mas Matisen choir's joy in singing and music, through the story of the choir's work from 1972-2019.
The Mas Matisen choir was a group of happy singers from Ringsted. Started by a quartet in 1972 and ending with a fireworks display of well-known songs in 2019. After no less than 675 performances.
Older Danish popular music was reinvented through Mas Matisen. Songs were sung that everyone loved very much, so that both singers and audience could not help but get in a good mood. It was joy of life through song.
After a few years, the songs were staged and acted. Everyone in the choir helped. If you wanted to sing, you also had to paint, carpentry or sew costumes.
For the first several years, the choir therefore performed with well-known singing plays and plays, with the greatest singing performances being in Flegermusen, Pinafore, Farinelli, Nitouche and The Glade Enke.
After some time, the inspiration bubbled over, and own theme stories were created. Examples of these were Musikalsk Danmarkshistorie, Vikingetid and Melodien der found, which has been recreated in exhibition form at the museum.
The performances were performed annually at St. Day of prayer, where we had fun with coffee and warm wheat.
From start to finish, the choir memorized all the songs. And it was always sung in four parts. At all performances there were both group singing, songs where the choir sang and songs with soloists.
The choristers have always performed for free. The profit from ticket sales and fees went to a MUSIK grant, which was founded in 1982. Over the years, grants were awarded to promising young musicians. A total of DKK 410.000 was distributed to 49 scholarship recipients.
