Lecture - HAV, The voice of the sea in Denmark
Klostrstræde 18, 4300 Holbæk
At Skælskør City Museum you can experience the special exhibition in the 2021 and 2022 season The Carmelites in Skælskør. This order of monks came to Skælskør in the 1400th century and built a monastery in Algade, but neither the order of monks nor the monastery managed to get more than approx. 100 years in the city. The exhibition tells about the belief in heaven and hell in the late Middle Ages, about the Carmelites and their worship of the Virgin Mary and gives an explanation as to why the monastery did not survive to posterity. In the exhibition you can see a nice small selection of some of the objects that archaeologists uncovered during the most extensive excavation of the monastery's grounds in the winter of 1996.
The exhibition can be viewed Skælskør City Museum during opening hours. NB: free entry.
