Lecture on the Shield Frieze in Sorø Church by cand. mag. and PhD Michael Kræmmer, who has researched the history of the Hvideslægten and Sorø Monastery Church.
The famous medieval shield frieze in Sorø Church (Monastery Church) has had a turbulent life with many repaintings, adjustments and more or less successful attempts to return it to its original form. Originally, it appeared as a tribute to the monastery's great benefactors, the well-known Hvideslægt family. But not everyone was equally praised for their generosity. The lecture will try to shed light on how we can interpret the frieze as it stands today, whether we can trust the shields we see, and why it is precisely the shields we see.
Registration for the lecture is not necessary.
