Adelgade 23, 4400 Kalundborg
Slagelse Museum has a large collection from the fashion designer Viola Nielsen, who had the shop Modesalonen Wien from 1941 to 1984 in Rosengade 3.
Viola Nielsen was herself trained as a seamstress in the same store, where there had been a continuous fashion store at the address since 1891. Viola had students employed in a shop and workshop, and made sure that the students also came to school in Copenhagen.
In addition to showing Viola's fine and very different hats with feathers, veils, ribbons and flowers in felt, fabric, fur, straw and fake fur in an eldorado of colors and materials in the fashion of the time, the exhibition also shows the beautiful shapes of tin, wood and thread fiber, over which the hats are made.
The exhibition is built up as a small shop, you can go in and take a closer look at the many fine details.
The exhibition can be seen at Slagelse Museum, see opening hours here.
