Detector find Grisebjerg. Finds, research and common ground - A silver treasure from the Viking Age is reappearing.

A silver treasure from the Viking Age reappears.

25 years after the excavation of a 3 kg heavy silver treasure consisting of approx. 1.600 whole and cut silver objects, pieces of silver appeared again in the field. The new finds and their location agree with the previous finds and they are parts of the same hoard. The excavation then showed that the treasure was buried in a settlement from the younger Germanic Iron Age and the Viking Age.

In a smaller special exhibition, Museum Vestsjælland shows selected finds from Grisebjerg.

Every year, keen detectorists find thousands of finds in West Zealand. But what can we actually use them for? In a series of smaller exhibitions in 2023, we will show what some of the many finds have led to from archaeological investigations and further research.
