Weapons in West Zealand. Weapon finds from Hallebygår

In a smaller exhibition, Museum Vestsjælland shows weapon finds from Hallebygårde and other exciting locations in West Zealand.

Every year, keen detectorists find thousands of finds in West Zealand. But what can we actually use them for? In a series of smaller exhibitions in 2023, we will show what some of the many finds have led to from archaeological investigations and further research.

The amount of detector finds increasing, but weapons and equestrian equipment still make up a surprisingly small part of the archaeological material. Their number, find context and expression do not harmonize with the meaning assigned to them in the prehistoric narrative. A future research project will seek an explanation for this. In this connection, the exhibition shows some of the finds of weapons and equestrian equipment that have come to light in recent years.
