City walk in medieval Kalundborg

Medieval house in Kalundborg

Kalundborg and especially the district Højbyen is rich in buildings and environments from the Middle Ages. Join us on a city walk where we delve into the unique history.

The city walk starts at the Kalundborg Museum, where we look into the museum and see the unique woven

Crusade wallpaper with motifs from the city and its founder Esbern Snares' crusade. In the museum garden there is a peek at a model of the medieval city.

Then we go to Højbyen, which is one of the best-preserved districts in Scandinavia from the Middle Ages. We look into the unique five-tower Church of Our Lady and into a stone house which has had many functions, e.g. has it been used as a hospital.

We continue to the remains of the moat and the ruins of the castle that Esbern Snare had built, and around which Kalundborg grew up.

Along the way, we get close to the many fine details that characterize medieval building practices.

Unfortunately, the trip is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

It is necessary to buy a ticket in advance. Adult: DKK 90. Child between 12-18 years: DKK 30.
