The last Viking ship?Ongoing
Klostrstræde 18, 4300 Holbæk
Hear about Julius and the American on a city walk about the two famous builders in Ringsted. They are behind the construction of many impressive buildings in the city.
Who was Julius, and who was the American? Julius was Ringsted's great builder and several of his buildings were built in collaboration with Alfred Mortensen, which was the American's real name. He had been to the United States, where technology within the construction industry was at a somewhat higher stage than in Ringsted, and he brought new ideas and building methods home with him.
On the city walk we look at the buildings and hear stories about the two and their collaboration, and of course we pass by one of the buildings that holds a very special history, namely the Stock Exchange on Søgade.
The stock exchange is built in a historicist style, which Alfred Mortensen was very enthusiastic about, and as something completely new, a goods elevator was also installed in the building.
It is necessary to buy a ticket in advance.
Meeting point: The Tingstenene at the Square, Ringsted.
