Museum West Zealand enters into collaboration with Vetektor Buddy
It began with a lecture about war – now veterans with metal detectors will help Museum Vestsjælland's archaeologists search areas before an excavation.
At the beginning of April, Balkan veteran Henrik Nielsen gave an exciting lecture about what it is like to go to war, what consequences it can have, and how to get over it. He said that the detector hobby is beneficial for many veterans. That is why Museum Vestsjælland hosted a national meeting for veterans on Saturday, April 5. It was arranged by Veterans in Archaeology and the Vetektor Buddy local department at Veterancafé Lejre.
And what a success! We met at the Nyvang Cooperative Village grounds and walked with metal detectors, having a fantastic community and a great experience together.
The Vetektor Buddy program is part of the research project Veterans in Archaeology – a citizen science project at Aarhus University that investigates how archaeology can contribute with social and health-promoting activities. And it works! This is certainly not the last time Museum Vestsjælland contributes to the project, and we are already looking forward to exploring new areas together with the veterans!
The lecture that started it all was part of a series of knowledge salons.
