Seminar on weapons and riding equipment in the 1st millennium

Well-attended seminar on weapons and riding equipment in the 1st millennium with guests from abroad

Friday 8.9. In 2023, Museum Vestsjælland together with the National Museum held an international seminar at the Fortress in Korsør: If I can see yours, you can see mine - weapons and riding gear from the 1st millennium. The seminar overturned museum inspector Trine Borake's project Weapons in West Zealand on it. The project, which takes place in collaboration with Mads Degnsø Jessen from the National Museum, is to uncover finds of weapons and riding equipment from the first millennium with a view to learning more about the social organization in the region.

The seminar was well attended with attendees from England, Scandinavia, Poland and the Netherlands both among guests and presenters. Representatives from a large part of the Danish museums, the universities and also many detectorists were present. The seminar has received very good reviews and fulfilled a need to meet and exchange experiences across national borders and disciplines.

The plan is to publish the presentations in an anthology, but until then you can see one summary of the lectures here (PDF is 52 MB).
