KDL Pilot boat

Floating dissemination of pilotage on the fjord

KDL The pilot boat is today a museum ship based in Holbæk wooden ship harbor. The pilot boat served as a pilot and harbor boat for more than half a century, when shipping still played a role. The pilot boat is maintained and sailed by volunteers in the museum's ship guild. The purpose of the Ship Guild is partly to help preserve one of the Isefjord's characteristic old wooden boats, and partly to convey the cultural history of Holbæk as a port town with shipping and shipbuilding by the fjord.

The pilot boat with the identification letters KDL is a member of Træskibs Sammenslutningen (TS) and participates - as far as possible - in the annual Pentecostal meeting. Skibslauget is a co-organizer of TRÆF FJORDENS TRÆBÅDE - an annual meeting for boats that have been built in the Isefjord area or have functioned as utility boats here.

The ship guild can always use more members. Write to the museum at holbaek@vestmuseum.dk to sign up!

The pilot boat on a boat trip

The history of the KDL Pilot Boat

In 1922, the KDL pilot boat was built for Rørvig Lodseri at Frederikssund's shipyard. Engine: 12 HP Crude oil engine with glow plug ignition, Aabenraa Motorfabrik.

Thanks to the benevolent support of many companies and foundations, Holbæk Museum was able to buy the Pilot Boat in 1999.

KDL The pilot boat is today owned by Holbæk Museum and run by volunteer members of a ship guild. Since the old pilot boat became a museum ship in 1999, it has undergone a major restoration to bring the ship back to its original appearance. The most extensive changes have taken place at Holbæk Shipyard, while the ship guild itself is responsible for accommodation, as well as the less extensive repairs and maintenance.

Holbæk Museum's pilot boat has been in the yard at Søfart og marine Håndværk, the National Museum. The frames that had to be changed have been changed, the bow is finished and the cladding/ship side has been reviewed.

See KDL Lodsbåden's history in years and all those we owe a big thank you for their support over the years.

Volunteers in the ship guild

The ship guild meets in the 'pilot house' at the harbor on the 1st Monday in odd months, where the work on the boat and the guild's activities are planned. During the sailing season, there are activity days every Tuesday, where those present sail or work on the boat. Each member can join one or more working groups that have different responsibilities.

Skippers on the Pilot Boat have knowledge of sailing at the level of the proficiency test and have sailed for many hours with the Pilot Boat.
Only members of the museum association at Holbæk Museum can participate in sailing with the Pilot Boat.
