THE EXHIBITION

Experience the Gislinge Boat at Holbæk Museum – a unique chance to get up close to one of the best preserved boats from its time. This is the first time ever that the boat is on display.

You can see the Gislinge boat in its full size where an atmospheric staging with light, sound and projections brings the boat's history to life. You will be taken back to a time when the fjords were the lifeblood of everyday life, and where boats like this connected people and trade routes.

In the exhibition room on the 1st floor you can delve even deeper into the history. Here you will find original objects from the boat, such as patches, nails and sealing material, which show how the boat was used and maintained throughout its life. On the walls hang pictures from the excavation, which provide a fascinating insight into the boat's journey from the ground to the museum. Interactive screens allow you to explore the find, the excavation, the craftsmanship and the importance of the boat in its time – and you can see how clinker building is still practiced today by boatbuilders and maritime craftsmen in, among others, Holbæk.

The exhibition bridges the gap between past and present and gives you an insight into the years-long conservation process, where experts from Museum Vestsjælland, the National Museum and the Viking Ship Museum have worked together to preserve and exhibit the boat for posterity.

With a combination of aesthetics, sensory experiences and in-depth communication, Holbæk Museum, part of Museum Vestsjælland, welcomes you to a journey back to the 1100th century!

NOTE

Part of the exhibition is located on the 1st floor and is only accessible via stairs, as there is unfortunately no elevator.
