Guided tour of Sct. Bendts Church, Valdemarernes beautiful burial church

Sct. Bendts Kirke is one of Northern Europe's first brick churches and one of Denmark's most beautiful medieval churches. Originally a humble monastery church, but in the struggle to consolidate royal power in Denmark in the 1200th century, the original church in adobe was demolished and the spectacular building we know today was built. Behind it all was Valdemar the Great and the church was built in honor of his canonized father, Knud Lavard. The church still houses Knud's tomb and all the Valdemars are buried here. On the tour we bring the church's frescoes to life. We tell about Valdemar the Great and his foster brother Absalon. About the beautiful Queen Dagmar, and about the Dannebrog that fell from the sky. We visit the Valdemars' graves and hear about the fascinating history of the proud royal family. Be inspired before your visit here.
