Tour description:
Your guide will meet you in front of the five-towered Church of Our Lady, which is located in the middle of Kalundborg's old town, called Højbyen. Our Lady's Church is Northern Europe's only 5-tower church. In the Middle Ages, the heavenly Jerusalem was imagined as a fortified city with just 5 towers. Here, at the end of time, people were to live in peace with God.
After the church, the tour continues with a short city walk in the medieval town, where the road is laid past the ruins of Esbern Snare's castle. The trip ends at Kalundborg Museum, where the 7 m long Crusader wallpaper hangs. The woven wallpaper tells the intriguing story of the Crusades to the countries around the Baltic Sea in the 11th and 1200th centuries. Esbern Snare, Archbishop Absalon and King Valdemar the Great are key figures.
