Dig into the past – Archaeology for the whole family

During the autumn holidays we will open the free archaeological workshop. Monday to Friday between 10:30 and 15:00 you can try out a metal detector, dig and wash real finds – and ask all the questions you want to a real archaeologist!

In the garden you can find coins with a metal detector, and it's actually not as easy as it sounds!

Also try washing real archaeological finds free of soil – are they bones, potsherds or something else entirely? Inside, you can dig yourself and find exciting finds to examine. At the end, you will receive a diploma as a junior archaeologist if you complete all the tasks.

As something completely unique, the 900-year-old Gislinge Boat is on display at Holbæk Museum. It was excavated by archaeologists over 30 years ago. Take the opportunity to talk to our archaeologist about, for example, what to do when you find something as large as the Gislinge Boat.

Afterwards, you can explore the captivating and sensual exhibition yourself.

As always, the play loft is also open, where children can play on the ship that needs to be loaded with sacks – or fish for magnetic fish!

After-school programs are very welcome – please book an appointment so we know you are coming. There are after-school programs here

Children have free admission – adults pay 75 DKK in admission.
