City tour – Holbæk in the Middle Ages

Join us on a fascinating city walk and see Holbæk in a new way! The city was completely different in the Middle Ages – for example, the water level was much higher, and most of the harbor we know today was just water, seaweed and stone.

We begin in the courtyard of Holbæk Museum, a green oasis in the middle of the city.
From here we head towards St. Nicolai Church and the monastery, which holds many stories.
It later became the town hall, which is also where the museum once was. Hear about the prisoners who were locked up in the attic, among other things.

Further down through the city we will see both Bagstræde and Algade – some of the few streets from the Middle Ages.
Also see Centergaarden, where we found over 1.000 skeletons when the museum dug up and found an old medieval cemetery.

At the harbor we will see where the water actually went, and right there it becomes clear how different the city actually looked.

Many street names along the way have funny stories, especially look forward to the one about Vimmelskaftet.

We also go around Lahbæk, where a church was also found.

The tour ends at the Square, where we will hear a little about how it has been used since the Middle Ages.

It is necessary to purchase a ticket in advance. Price: 90 kr.

Unfortunately, the tour is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

Meeting point: Museum shop Holbæk Museum.
