An abundance of textiles – opening of Borch's Collection

Borch's little yellow house at Holbæk Museum is busy. The textile guild's six members are in the process of selecting textiles that museum visitors can get their hands on on Sunday 9 October. Come and help mark the opening of Borch's Collection and see examples from the collection.

Borch's collection consists of several thousand textiles from the last 250 years. The things are used i.a. in the museum's communication, but is now also offered for visitors' individual studies and investigations. There are clothes for parties and everyday life, for example Charleston dresses; curtains with colorful embroidery; school craftsman who bear witness to the terperi of the past and a floral christening dress from the 1700th century sewn from the sumptuous silk dress of a distinguished lady. The collection also contains a large subject library.

By agreement with the Textile Guild, you can visit Borchs Samling alone or with a small group. You can have historical textiles taken out, hold them in your hand, turn and turn them, count threads, photograph or draw patterns, etc. Of course, you must not damage the items, and you cannot borrow them home.

If you are interested in visiting Borch's Collection, send an e-mail to Holbæk Museum at the address: kmn@vestmuseum.dk, and the Textile Guild will contact you for further arrangements.
